Question 13: What should be the feeding cycle for plants growing in pots with 50/50 loose rockwool (50% Absorbent and 50% Repellent Agro Dynamics Granulated Rockwool)?
How much to water depends on many factors such as lighting, temperature, and how big the plants are. Since a repellent/absorbent mix is being used, it will need more watering than Grodan blocks, but NOT continuous watering.
First measure the amount of solution that comes out of an individual tube feeding a pot, in order to know the rate of watering in the system.
Under 1,000 Watt lighting, 35% of the pot volume needs to be irrigated each time from 3 to 5 times per day. So a 1-gallon pot will need a little more than a third of a gal. of solution at each watering. To see if the pot has been watered enough, check to see if 25% of the total solution provided that day has drained back into the tank. Or use the syringe test described in the brochure “Watering and pH” available at your local hydroponic shop.
If your plants are under 400 Watt lighting, water 1-3 times per day. If watering only once, then irrigate to 125% of the pot volume. If watering 2-3 times, then irrigate to 75% of pot volume each time. View all FAQ's >> |
