Gro-Slabs

Delta Technology Animation

The final stage of planting is the Grodan Delta slabs. There are three slab types available in a variety of sizes.

These slabs come in clearly marked biodegradable UV resistant poly sleeves.
The poly sleeves have several functions;

  • Comfort in handling.
  • Preventing algae growth.
  • Preventing roots and diseases from moving easily from slab to slab.
  • Minimizing evaporation.
  • Enabling full saturation of the slabs before use.
  • Controlling/directing the water-run off from the slabs.

Below the table you will find details about the properties of each kind of slab.

The diagrams on the slabs are simplified illustrations of the fiber direction in the slabs:

Vertical fibers
- water moves fast through the fibers
Horizontal fibers
- water moves slowly through the fibers
Mixed fiber density
- Counter acts most of natural gravity to create the perfect even water content in the whole slab.

Grodan Expert:
The slab that drains the fastest because of its vertical fibers. These are our most popular slabs and the ones we recommend for home hobby use.

Grodan Classsic: The slab that stays wetter because of its horizontal fibers. Best for hot climates and situations where less frequent watering is a requirement.

Grodan Master: The special wet/dry slab. The top fiber layer is horizontal and stays wetter, while the bottom layer is vertical so it stays drier. By placing the fiber mix like that, the slab in effect defies what gravity does to water, allowing more even distribution of moisture throughout the slab.
This slab is only recommended for people with years of experience growing in Grodan slabs.
